Santa Monica College (SMC) is a public community college in Santa Monica, California. Founded as a junior college in 1929, SMC enrolls over 30,000 students in more than 90 fields of study. The college initially served pre-college high school students, eventually expanding its enrollment to educate college-age and non-traditional students with the intention to transfer to a four-year university.     What are HBCUs?

    Historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are institutions that were established prior to 1964 with the principal mission of educating Black Americans.

    HBCUs have produced 40 percent of all Black engineers and 50 percent of all Black lawyers in America. Seventy percent of Black doctors in our country attended an HBCU, and 80 percent of Black judges are alumni of these schools.

    More fun facts....

    The Bethune-Cookman University Inspirational Gospel Choir is an extracurricular activity.  It is a component of The La-Doris McClaney School of Performing Arts and Communication. This organization originally sang for Wednesday evening prayer meetings on campus, organized by Pentecostal Students. Since that time, its purpose has broadened to include gospel music in order to reflect a facet of the religious image of the university.  https://youtu.be/7dGTdxsBWdQ
